Day 38
World Heritage Site Koyasan and a typical piece of
homeland
GPS: N 34 °, 13.848 ' E 135 °, 29.491 '
Altitude: 842 m
Place: Crossroad 480/3
Etmal: 19 km
Total: 836 km
In the morning I feel like my camping ground - pieces of
gravel in front of a rural garage with steel sheets, 1 m beside
a highway! It could have also been 4 a.m. in the morning in
November! The day is grey and dull, no breakfast today and
the last 4 km I'm struggling uphill through a wonderful forest.
It's too bad that just in this moment I'm dreaming of meat
salad and buns with smoked sausage. Then I step out of the
forest's twilight into the sun of the 1000 m high Koyasan,
and
in front of me a gigantic temple gate is shining in red. I
am at
a loss for words! "Look for a camping place", I
ask myself at once but then the buns come again into my mind.
In the next village I find a store where I can satisfy my
rudimentary needs. On the way back to the temple I meet two
people staggering through the landscape. One thought crossed
immediately my mind: "German!" Therefore, I also
greet in German "Hello,
how are you?" They answer with a murmuring and straight-faced
they are already gone! Much later: Together with
a group of Taiwanese architects I'm really enjoying the 50
m
high, red-shining temple being the landmark of Koyasan,
when a group of silent people pass by. Again I think
"German". My both figures are also with them, but
no
reaction. Here we have a typical piece of homeland!
They'll find you everywhere!
