Day 41
Heaven on earth
GPS: N 34 °, 22.817 ' E 135 °, 47.168 '
Place: Schimoichi
Etmal: 25 km
Total: 914 km
During the whole night it has been raining cats and dogs and
it's still going on. That's why I've decided to take a bath
in an Onsen about noon. Out of the cool dampness of the
mountains into the hot water but without shower gel - that's
heaven on earth. The knotted muscles and brain bends get free...
relaxing time! But I needed some rest badly to make afterwards
the missing 12 km in the fog. That's really
annoying. I'm dragging myself uphill through a valley to a
tunnel which is 4 km long. Thank God, this part of my program
has to wait till tomorrow. In this valley, there seems to
be the whole chopstick production of Japan. These wooden sticks
are made of trees in many working steps on infernal
machines. I'm not allowed to take photos, probably because
the way of doing is company secret and comes from the samurai's
time. You can find such a machine in almost every second house,
where in half-dark rooms women produce chopsticks in a noisy
chaos without any safety at work, and
on machines which might be from the beginning of the industrial
age. I think the Japanese waste about 200,000,000 pieces of
chopsticks daily. Quite late I find a place to stay beside
a temple in a forest. Noises? I haven't a clue,
because I slept like a log.
