I would be happy, if I could accept his invitation to spend the night in his house, but my tent had been ready before. I feel I should rather keep company with the old trees and listen to
the Kami wandering through the branches at night. In the morning Oba-chan serves up again out his deep stock of treats, the sun is beating down as usual after sake and
temple .... Suddenly a woman stops on the road, jumps out
of the car, presses a bottle of juice in my hands shouting "Gambatte!" and disappears.... My "people of Shangri La" suddenly stand right in front of my nose (of course with their car) and give me a bag with vitamin C drops and a thank-you postcard... A grandpa on a bike stops also unexpectedly, dismounts, bows and thanks me for walking across his
country and having even sewed the Japanese flag on my backpack. And then he's already gone ... That's really a bit thick and u n b e l i e v a b l e!
