Day 47
The drivers
GPS: N 34 °, 35.045 ' E 137 °, 01.122 '
Place: Irago (on the beach of peninsula Atsumi)
Etmal: 23 km
Total: 1,054 km
What can be lovelier than summer, sun and sunshine, but
after more than 1,000 km on the roads of Japan I must tell
you a few words about the drivers. They are very, very respectful
towards me and even drive backwards to let pass me. This has
never happened to me in Germany. Of course, there's the famous
exception that proves the rule: There also
a few who shake their mobile in the dark tunnel with a blank
look not understanding why it doesn't work, and who are responsible
for my transformation into a cow flat on the tunnel wall.
Then there are the "know-it-alls" (probably teachers
and officials which cannot be dismissed), who prefer to knock
down and kill you than touching the mid-line because that's
what they've learned in the driving school. And anyway, they
are always right! Well, and there are more and more zombies
who only see the silhouettes of two lines: the mid-line where
they have to keep away from and the side line suitable only
for bikes. During the last 80 years they obviously haven't
seen any people walking here. I have to get away as soon as
possible, because they are little bit out of order. Apart
from
the sea and the wonderful weather, the chief attraction has
been a motorbike which was driving without exhaust but with
a loudspeaker including amplifier to do even more noise. In
this way jobs are created, even if it's only for the hearing
aid industry - it doesn't matter. Oh God, what a noise! I
prefer the surf thundering...!
