Day 57
What
I think about nature
GPS: N 35 °, 21,380 ' E 138 °, 27.028 '
Place: Minobu
Etmal: 23 km
Total: 1,292 km
Once I've been asked for this at a campfire somewhere in Africa,
and I quoted from "The Medicus" of Noah Gordon:
"Nature, this is much fresh air and the chance to fart
and to
pee wherever you want." It seems that in Japan this is
also
very popular (or do they have fertilizer problems?), because
in villages I often see (only) men coming out of the house
and peeing in the garden or in the street drainage. Or maybe
this
is a ritual I havn't known yet. Who can help???
On the road at one of the drinks machine, I meet an old grandma
telling me proudly in a cruel slang something about "Tokyo".
I need a long to time to understand that this is the Tokaido
she's proudly talking about and that this was the old way
between Kyoto and Edo (Tokyo) passing directly next to her
house. She even runs in her "gingerbread house"
and gives me copy. A long, long time I've tried in vain to
get information about the Tokaido. It's a pity ... maybe next
time.
