Day 79
California
GPS: N 38°, 54.306'
E 139°, 49.153'
Ort: Sakata
Etmal: 29 km
Total: 1867 km
At night an infernal rain storm came down and I could sleep
only with ear plugs. The place was well chosen. In the
morning the sun comes through, the storm is still there and
the Chokai San is wrapped in threatening blue-black clouds.
First I cross the town Sakata which is not yet awake. Only
the schoolboys with their black uniforms with golden buttons
and schoolgirs in sailor suits with much too short skirts
tumble on the roads half asleep.
In front of the Chokai San, endless rice fields in the plaine
are following, the wind is damned cold and I can hear the
thundering of the surf which is 3 km far away from here.
About noon there are no other roads available and I must
walk on the main road No. 7 which goes directly over the beach.
The sight is breathtaking. The sea sends waves of
5 - 7 m height against the fissured lava steep coast with
pines. Immediately I have to think of North California. Fortunately
the road has a footpath, which often sits as "balcony"
over the surf. Everything is full of spray and the
air is salty.
